5 Tips to Boost Your Digestive Health

nutrition Sep 01, 2021

If there's one thing that's central to better health and fitness, it's proper digestion. Sure, making sure you have the right form and regular exercise is important, but getting the fuel you need to make exercise possible all boils down to one thing: your gut.

Our article 'Why You Aren't Losing Fat' touches a little on the importance of proper dieting and nutrition. Today, we're going to get a little more detailed. Fitness and nutrition isn't possible without healthy digestion, so here are five tips for boosting your digestive health for the better.

Stock Up On Fiber

You can't talk about healthier digestion without talking about fiber. As Everyday Health notes, fiber is one of the cornerstones of a healthy diet. Dietary fiber helps keep your bowel movements healthy and regular, which lessens the amount of toxins in your body.

In addition, some fibrous foods are actually prebiotics, or food for the healthy bacteria in your stomach. When these healthy bacteria are well fed, they boost your immune system response and make digestion and nutrient absorption much easier, which is always good news.

Keep Hydrated

You might have heard the old wives tale that drinking water right after eating could lead to an upset stomach. Mayo Clinic says otherwise — in fact, drinking more water during or after your meals could be the key to better digestion.

Water helps break down the food in your body more quickly, which makes digestion go more quickly and leads to faster absorption of nutrients. Taking in the proper amount of fluids also helps regulate your bowel movements, making it easier on your colon by preventing constipation. So if you care about your digestive health, make sure you get those 8 glasses a day in regularly.

Take Regular Probiotics

Another thing you'll need to keep in mind for healthier digestion is the state of your gut. More precisely, the state of your gut bacteria. Our digestive systems are actually home to good bacteria and yeasts which not only aid in digestion, but also help defend the body against harmful bacteria and microorganisms.

Also known as probiotics, these good bacteria unfortunately don't last forever, so it's important to keep your intake regular. Brightcore suggests apple cider vinegar gummies which contain probiotics for better digestive health. These gummies are easy to transport and eat, so you have regular and convenient access to probiotics even when you're on the go.
