Pilates plank on Real Alignment Mat is a fabulous, full-body, core strengthening exercise.
I posted a little while ago about Pilates being a full body system that includes all of the usual exercise suspects, including lots of planks.
My colleague Alycea Ungaro has developed a mat that is beautiful and shows where to place your body parts for optimal alignment when doing any exercises.
Now, you can do this pilates plank anywhere, but it is interesting to see how Tori is able to maintain such good alignment due to the layout of the mat.
Yesterday I went over to Real Pilates in Tribeca to first review my contract with friend and owner Alycea Ungaro and second, take a fabulous archival Pilates mat and spring work class from the beautiful and brilliant Shari Berkowitz. Regarding the first, you may start booking Pilates, Reiki, TRX with me at Real Pilates starting Monday October 3, 2011. Regarding the second, Shari's class was wonderful. Geared towards Pilates teachers, she gave us some lesser known but still very useful archival additions to the "traditional" Pilates mat and spring work. Something I really missed when I was the only teacher on Parrot Cay was the ability to work with other Pilates teachers.
In addition to Real Pilates, I am also teaching limited privates in other areas of the City as well as in-home training. Just email me [lynda AT lyndalippin.com] if you are interested.
I was looking at my Google news alert for "Pilates" this morning and saw this headline under "Web": 7 Things You Didn't Know About Pilates: Shape Magazine. It turned out to be a great little slideshow dispelling some Pilates myths and featuring my friend Alycea Ungaro of Real Pilates in Tribeca (where I teach when in the city). Great factoids like the original name of Pilates (Contrology) and that Pilates actually burns more fat longer than cardio! I encourage you to check out the piece and let me know what you think. Did you learn something new about Pilates?
