It's Been A Crazy Month

It's Been A Crazy Month in my life!

Sometimes things in my life converge in a way that everything happens at once. I am sure you have experienced this kind of crazy month, where business and medical things all come up at one time.

And regardless of whether stress is good or bad, it is still stress!

Pilates for Back Pain eCourse in pre-Launch

Last month I signed on to Amanda Tress and Lindsey Murray's eBook Academy, not realizing how busy my December would end up being. And as I started to put my Pilates for Back Pain eCourse project together, I realized how huge it really is. Many photos, videos, and audios in addition to the text of the book.

That said, the book text is almost completed, and to meet my goal everything will be done and delivered on or before Christmas (just 13 days away).

Did I mention that I already sold quite a few of these eCourses? So I have to get this baby done! There is nothing like money on the table for motivation.

Order your copy of my Pilates for Back Pain eCourse now and save $50!

Beachbody Team Inspire

In a totally unlikely move, I have partnered with Beachbody via Team Inspire, a group of close to 100 vibrant and successful fitness professionals!

I joined this partnership for a number of reasons:

Shakeology

I am dealing with hypothyroidism (see below) and weight gain, and need access to the best superfood meal replacement shake. So many women who I respect drink Shakeology to replace at least one meal a day, that I knew I needed to try it.

Beachbody On Demand

Since living and working in the Caribbean, I have a need to travel light and not collect lots of paper and plastic. I prefer workout subscriptions that I can easily access on line on any device. With Beachbody On Demand, I have access to hundreds of workouts, including every version of P90x. Plus I have preview workouts from new products, such as Hammer & Chisel and P90.

Passive Income & No Hard Selling

Not one member of Team Inspire is expected to hard sell, or to identify solely as a Beachbody coach. We all came into this with a healthy business already, looking for a new line of income. So we lead by example and encourage folks who want to partner with us to check out the group.

In fact, we have a free Beachbody Team Inspire preview starting on Facebook Monday 12/14!

Leave a comment if you are interested and I will make sure you get more information.

Hypothyroidism

I have been getting more and more tired over the past year. And I simply cannot lose weight, no matter how much I exercise or how little and how well I eat.

It is very frustrating!

So I went to my GYN last month and had all of my hormones tested (I had a total hysterectomy about 20 years ago, and am on hormone replacement therapy). My hormones are balanced and my cortisol levels are low.

But... my Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) level more than doubled, going from 2.08 to 4.66 in a year. When your thyroid slows down, the body produces more TSH to try to get it going again.

So I go see my GP for another test on the 21st of this month to confirm the findings.

It turns out that women with a history of endometriosis and interstitial cystitis (both of which are now thought to be auto-immune disorders) have seven times the rate of hypothyroidism later in life. And since those are whey I had the hysterectomy....

Well, you get the picture.

In my research I have found that a gluten, soy, corn, and peanut-free diet is best for hypothyroidism. I have started that, and in general I feel a little better.

I can't wait to start some medication and see how much better I will feel when my levels are normal.

Returning Clients

I love to teach Pilates, and also love to see returning clients. In the past two weeks I have had two clients who have been away for over a year return to my schedule! Yay!

So, there you have just a taste of my craziness this month! Now let me go work on that eCourse!

Pilates and Reiki After Abdominal Surgery

Curso de Instructor de Pilates I have been doing Pilates and Reiki since 1986 and teaching Pilates since 1989 (Reiki teaching came later). In the decade from 1986-1996 I was diagnosed with migraine headaches, severe endometriosis, and pelvic pain, undergoing five separate laparoscopic surgeries and many hormonal and pain therapies before finally undergoing a total abdominal hysterectomy at the age of 30. The two things that carried me through that difficult decade - which also included earning a graduate degree in Philosophy, getting married, becoming a parent, and opening my first Pilates studio - were Pilates and Reiki.

As an undergraduate at Purchase College, I originally started doing Pilates to see what the studio was spending money on. You see, I was the Finance Director of student government, which in the '80s was funding the Pilates studio. But once I started Pilates, I was hooked! The exercises were the only ones I had ever encountered that targeted my abdominals and pelvic floor in such a clear and effective way. My hypermobile joints felt better and stronger. Most important for me, the pain I had each month from the endometriosis, which manifested in severe abdominal cramps, nausea, and lower back pain, would go away for a little while after my Pilates class.

My first experiences with Therapeutic Touch and then Reiki came from the Physical Therapist I hired at my first Pilates studio in PA. Susan not only gave me treatments, but also taught me how to do treatments on myself and others, even teaching my husband how to work on me to help me prepare for and recover from the major surgery, since I could only rest well after a treatment. I was the first patient ever at Temple University hospital to have Reiki practitioners in pre-op and recovery with me (I insisted and my surgeon approved), and lost so little blood and healed so quickly that everyone was shocked.

I was back in the Pilates studio four weeks post-op, and while it wasn't easy getting back (in fact, I was so impatient and frustrated that I was a tough client), I can tell you today that my abs and pelvic floor work perfectly from regular Pilates. Plus, thanks to my daily Reiki practice I have no more daily chronic pain, I sleep well, and the migraines are gone.

So if you hear yourself, or anyone you know saying, “I had abdominal surgery [or cesarean]. They cut me, so I can't really use my abs anymore,” know that there is hope. With Pilates, your abs will work again! Mine do.
